It all started with Lotus for Dereliott Conversions, both Derek and John were keen Lotus enthusiasts who set up Dereliott Conversions as a race preparation company, but it was Lotus Racing in the late 60's who persuaded them to start dealing with their production cars and in turn with the general public. They were originally appointed as Lotus Service Dealers in 1969 and later moved from their workshops in Hoylake to their new premises in Thurstaston, and following extensive building works with the addition of a new showroom they then became Lotus Main Dealers for Wirral.
Dereliott Conversions were the country's largest Service Dealer, their workshops and product knowledge was second to non and people travelled to them from all over the country to have their cars serviced, they were particularly renowned for their engine fine tuning for which they had an enviable reputation. Only Dereliott's managed to get my Elan to run smooth even in rush hour traffic (webmaster). Their parts department was legendary and they supplied Lotus parts all over the world, I recall my brother telling me that he phoned Lotus when looking for an obscure part for his Elan and was told by them that the only place to try was Dereliott's, he lived in London and I being on the Wirral got the part and posted it to him.
They regularly shipped parts to Lotus owners clubs as far away as Australia, Canada and Japan amongst many others. |

Lotus Elan +2 brochure |
|||||||
This is what we believe to be the first ever brochure produced for the Elan +2 and is now very rare and collectable.
The children in the brochure we are told are Colin Chapman's two boys and the house was also his, although we are not sure which one as there are two houses, a traditional style and a modern one.
Some pages are in black & white because colour printing was very expensive in those days. |

1974 brought the new breed of Lotus as they moved away from the enthusiast market dropping the Elan and Europa and entered the executive market with the introduction of the Elite. A new customer profile was sought and to access it Lotus produced a range of up market glossy brochures for the Elite. |
